Alternatives to workshops: If you can't attend a workshop in person, view a shorter online presentation. These aren't nearly as in-depth as the below workshops, but they provide useful tips, and cover many specialized topics.
Resumes and Cover Letters workshop: If you're looking for a job, you must have a strong resume, and know how to write a strong cover letter. You may need these documents when you apply for internships and volunteer positions too. In this workshop, you'll learn the key words employers look for on resumes, and the skills you should highlight or develop. You'll learn about different types of resume formatting, and what makes a cover letter effective.

Effective Interviewing: Are you preparing to interview for a job, internship, or grad school program? To interview successfully, you must prepare in advance. This workshop provides tips that help with almost any type of interview. You'll learn how to present yourself, typical interview questions, how to answer the questions, what to wear, and much more. You'll also learn how to use your interview to decide if an employer or school is a good fit for you.

Job-Search Strategies: Did you know that most jobs and internships are NOT found through the internet? Many students don't know the best ways to search for a position. This workshop will teach you the techniques that are key to any job search.

Personal Statement workshop: Learn how to write an effective personal statement, and what pitfalls to avoid. Most graduate programs require you to write a personal statement and include it with your application materials. Don't underestimate the importance of writing a good one--it has a strong impact on the admission decision. It will also serve as your writing sample for the admissions committee.

Pre-Law Workshops
Should I Go to Law School? Are you thinking about going to law school? This workshop is for any U of M student considering it. We'll talk about the skills you need, and how to decide if law school's a good fit for you. We'll also provide tips about getting into law school, and what you can do to prepare.

Applying to Law School This free workshop is for students who know they're going to law school and would like guidance about the application process. We'll discuss application materials and deadlines, and how to prepare your application materials so that you're the best law school applicant you can be. This workshop is open to all U of M students.
